Gulliver's Travels (Part 1)

Thomas has always enjoyed leading games in his schoolyard, feeling proud when his classmates follow his rules. He has built a reputation as the organizer of their football matches, though his team has not won many games recently. Thomas believed that being in charge was the same as being important, a thought he has reconsidered after a significant event. Last month, his class traveled to a mountain for a nature trip, an experience that changed his perspective. During a hike, a friend who was afraid of heights suddenly felt dizzy and could not continue walking. Thomas, who usually just gave orders, realized he needed to help instead of command. He stayed with his friend, offering encouragement and sharing his water, while another student went to find the teacher. This act of support, not control, made Thomas feel truly valued by his group. He has learned that leadership involves compassion and teamwork, not just authority. A good leader is someone who listens to others and helps them feel safe. Although having power can be exciting, using it to help others is much more meaningful. Thomas now understands that real importance comes from the respect you earn through kindness, not from the orders you give.
