KOREAN STORY ·

"Cold today, isn't it?"

"Yes! Very cold! Like Seoul winter."

"Oh really? You're from Seoul?"
"Yes. Seoul, Korea. In winter — very cold. Snow also. Much snow."

"I've always wanted to visit Korea! Is it beautiful?"

"Oh! Very beautiful. Four seasons — spring, summer, fall, winter.

Each season is different. And food! Korean food is amazing. "

"Korean food — I love it! I had bibimbap last week at a Korean restaurant."

"Bibimbap! You know bibimbap?"
"It was delicious!"

"Restaurant bibimbap is good. But homemade bibimbap —

better! I can make for you someday! "

"Are you serious?! I would absolutely love that!"

Young-ja is in an elevator.

A neighbor says, "Cold today, isn't it?"

Young-ja says, "Yes! Very cold! Like Seoul."

The neighbor asks, "You are from Seoul?"

"Yes! Korea."

The neighbor says, "I love Korean food! I ate bibimbap last week."

Young-ja says, "I can make bibimbap for you!"

The neighbor is very happy.

They exchange numbers.

Young-ja thinks, "One sentence about weather — now I have a new friend!"

✅ A2 Level —

It is a cold November morning.

Young-ja gets into the elevator. A neighbor is already inside.

The neighbor says, "Cold today, isn't it?"

Young-ja answers, "Yes! Very cold. Like Seoul winter."

"You're from Seoul? I've always wanted to visit Korea!"

Young-ja talks about Korea's four beautiful seasons and amazing food.

The neighbor says, "I love Korean food! I had bibimbap last week."

Young-ja's eyes light up." Restaurant bibimbap is good —

but homemade is better! I can make for you someday! "

"Are you serious? I would love that!"

The elevator reaches the first floor.

They exchange numbers.

Young-ja walks out smiling.

"Cold weather made me a new friend today."

✅ B1 Level —

The elevator doors slid open on the fourth floor and Young-ja stepped in,

already bracing slightly against the chill she'd felt through the lobby windows.

Her neighbor from 4B was already inside — a woman she recognized by face but had never spoken to.

They exchanged the small nod of people who coexist politely in a building.

The doors closed.

Then the neighbor tilted her head slightly.

"Cold today, isn't it?"

Young-ja felt something unlock.

"Yes — very cold. Reminds me of Seoul winters, actually."

The neighbor looked over properly for the first time.

"Oh — you're from Seoul? I've always wanted to go to Korea."

Young-ja didn't even have to think.

"You should! It's beautiful in every season.

Spring has the cherry blossoms — pink everywhere.

Fall is like this but with orange and red mountains.

Winter has the snow and the food gets even better. "

"The food!" the neighbor laughed. "I'm obsessed with Korean food.

I went to a Korean restaurant last week and had bibimbap — absolutely incredible. "

Young-ja turned to face her fully.

"Bibimbap from a restaurant is good. But homemade bibimbap?

Different entirely. I could make it for you sometime, if you'd like. "

The neighbor stared at her.

"I'm sorry — are you offering to cook me homemade Korean bibimbap?"

"Yes. If you want."

"I want. I absolutely want."

The elevator announced the first floor with a soft ding.

They stepped out together, already exchanging numbers.

Walking out into the cold morning, Young-ja wrapped her coat around herself

and thought about how a four-word question about the weather

had turned into a dinner invitation and possibly a friendship.

In America, weather opens doors.
