What is an emergency?

An emergency is a serious danger. It can happen when a system is not safe, a crew member is hurt, or the mission must stop. The first job is not to shout. The first job is to understand what is happening.

emergency는 심각한 위험이나 비상 상황입니다. 시스템이 안전하지 않거나, 대원이 다치거나, 미션을 멈춰야 할 때 생길 수 있습니다. 가장 먼저 할 일은 소리치는 것이 아닙니다. 지금 무슨 일이 일어났는지 이해하는 것입니다.

Warning and emergency

A warning is a problem that needs attention. An emergency is a serious danger that needs action now. A good crew can tell the difference and report the correct status.

warning은 확인이 필요한 문제입니다. emergency는 지금 바로 행동해야 하는 심각한 위험입니다. 좋은 대원은 두 상태를 구분하고 정확하게 보고합니다.

Stop, check, report

In an emergency, stop first. Check the situation. Then report to Mission Control with short, calm words. Clear reports help Mission Control give the right instructions.
After reporting, the crew waits for Mission Control.
The crew does not guess the next action.
The crew listens, confirms, and follows the instruction.

비상 상황에서는 먼저 멈춥니다. 상황을 확인합니다. 그다음 짧고 차분한 말로 관제센터에 보고합니다. 분명한 보고는 관제센터가 올바른 지시를 주는 데 도움이 됩니다.
보고한 뒤 대원은 관제센터의 지시를 기다립니다.

Safe position

A safe position is a safe place or body position. The crew may stay in a seat, hold a handle, or move away from danger. Safety comes before speed.

safe position은 안전한 위치나 자세입니다. 대원은 좌석에 머물거나, 손잡이를 잡거나, 위험한 곳에서 멀어질 수 있습니다. 빠른 행동보다 안전이 먼저입니다.

Think Like an Emergency Response Officer

An emergency response officer does three things:

1. Stop unsafe action.
2. Check the situation.
3. Report clearly to Mission Control.

비상 대응 담당자는 세 가지를 합니다.

1. 위험한 행동을 멈춥니다.
2. 상황을 확인합니다.
3. 관제센터에 분명하게 보고합니다.
