We · Yevgeny Zamyatin · 1924
In the island nation of Utopia, Raphael Hythloday described a society free from the troubles of private property. There, all goods were stored in common warehouses, and people took only what they needed. No one owned land or grand houses, so there was no envy or greed. Work was shared, and everyone contributed to the community. Because no one could hoard wealth, there were no rich or poor. Hythloday believed this system created true justice and happiness. The Utopians lived simply, valuing time for learning and leisure over the endless pursuit of possessions that, in his view, poisoned other societies.
